The Band

Stereodeal is a Filipino electro-rock band formed in the middle of 2008. The aim was to create music combining emotional resonance and dance floor nihilism in what was then a post-punk revival world; essentially a musical reality where anything is possible. Throughout the years the band’s sound has constantly been oddly likened to Bloc Party, Placebo, and Muse, though each member has a wide range of influences from post punk to jazz.  These influences go beyond music—some of which include anything from comic books to theoretical physics to mundane life situations to romance. This range and depth of source material for the band likely ensures they won’t be running out of steam, creatively speaking, anytime soon. Interestingly, they are able to fuse all these influences to create a distinct sound that is layered, rich, and uncompromising.

In 2011 the band almost called it quits, due to personal priorities. A timely piece of advice from rock ‘n roll sages Patrick Reidenbach and Robbie Sunico (of the legendary Club Dredd) changed everything, and the band returned with a new lineup: founding members ADRIAN ARCEGA on vocals and guitar, DAX GONZAGA on bass, plus drummer MARIE DE GUZMAN on drums, and DAX BALMEO (also of dance-rock outfit Paranoid City) on guitars.

On January 7, 2015, the band released its debut album “Singularity”–produced by Adrian, Filipino guitar legend FRANCIS REYES (The Dawn, After Image, Peso Movement), and Dodjie Garcia–over at Dodjie’s Skunk Productions studios. Its hard-hitting first single, “Relentless,” was launched online via PinoyTuner and was subsequently aired in Jam 88.3. Later in the year, Francis joined as a full-time guitarist for the band. Francis brought his trademark power riffs, guitar atmospherics, and musical discipline to an already-dynamic group.

In 2016, the band released its second single “Hypertime,” a swirling ode to what-ifs and possibilities in a multiverse. It was accompanied by a visual effects extravaganza of a music video whose direction and visual effects were done by Adrian himself. The video—inspired by ideas from DC Comics writers Mark Waid and Grant Morrison—was launched at the 2016 ToyCon in SMX.

2017 saw the release of their third single off the album, “New Jersey.” The video, again directed by Adrian, depicts depression, loneliness, and alienation in urban life; something that is prevalent in today’s fast-paced lifestyle.

Marie left the band in 2017 to return to her hometown in Isabela province. Joining the band is drummer PETER TOLIBAS, known for his session work with Adrian’s former band The Purplechickens; he also hit the skins for the bands Ginseng and Oi Wag Dito. Peter brings an unpredictable raw power to Stereodeal’s evolving, technocrazy sound.

The album, “Singularity,” can be purchased via the website (CD) or digitally via iTunes, Amazon, and BandCamp; or streamed via Spotify and Deezer.
